App Tuesday – Protect your skin this summer with the SunSense app

Did you know our skin is our largest organ? If you didn’t, now you know. And since it envelops all of our other organs, we should protect it from the sun’s damaging rays during this beautiful, unusually warm summer in West Michigan. (I mean, 94 degrees, really?) Thankfully, there’s an app for that. SunSense by Raymio can help protect your skin, your day and even your life.

The SunSense app is designed to protect your skin whenever you’re exposed to the sun. You can plan your day according to your sun exposure on the app’s dashboard. Depending on how much time you plan on spending out in the sun, the app will suggest specific clothing options like a hat, sunglasses or other protective clothing and accessories. The app also suggests how much SPF protection you need based on your recorded time outside. For example, a two-hour walk on the beach would require at least a 20 SPF protection sunscreen. If you forgot your sunscreen at home, the app also has a feature that will suggest when to seek shade at the times when the sun is at its peak. The app also features a weather section so you know just how sunny, or not, it will be.

SunSense also works with a sun sensor for extra protection. The sensor is not required in order to use the app, but is a helpful tool in getting the maximum protection from the sun. The sun sensor can be purchased through the app or through the SunSense website for $39.99.

SunSense is available for free download on iOS and Android devices.
