The speakers for the 2018-19 Diversity Lecture Series at Grand Rapids Community College have recently been announced.
GRCC will host three diverse speakers this academic year. Starting the series on Oct. 24, is GOP Strategist and CNN Political Contributor Ana Navarro with her lecture, “Political Outlook.” Navarro is frequently seen on CNN commenting on political issues plaguing the United States. She also comments regularly on ABC’s “The View,” Telemundo and CNN en Español.
Following Navarro in the series is Bakari Sellers, a CNN political analyst, lawyer and activist. Sellers’ lecture, “Education, Civil Rights and Equality: Cornerstones for our Future” will take place on Feb. 13. In 2006, at the age of 22, Sellers became the youngest member of the South Carolina Legislature. Since then, Sellers has offered political commentary to CNN and MSNBC and is currently the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee’s National Council.
Closing the 2018-19 Diversity Lecture Series is Author and Journalist, Jessica Valenti on March 20 with her lecture, “Feminism Today.” Valenti is the author of five New York Times best selling books and is a leader in modern feminism. Her latest book, “Sex Object: A Memoir” was released in 2016 and covers Valenti’s childhood and adolescence and the moments that helped shape her.
All lectures begin at 7 p.m. at the Fountain Street Church, at 24 Fountain Street NE, and are free and open to the public. In addition, American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be present during the lectures.
