ArtPrize 10 gets underway today with more than 1,000 art entries on display at venues throughout Grand Rapids. The international art competition takes place this year from Sept. 19 to Oct. 7.
In total, there are nearly 200 venues to take a peak at local, national and international works of art created in a variety of mediums. This year, Grand Rapids Community College hosts two ArtPrize 10 venues. The GRCC Collins Art Gallery, on the fourth floor of the Main Building, and Spectrum Theater both showcase 18 pieces and are available for GRCC students and the general public to view.
Round one voting starts today at noon and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 29. Moving on to round two will be the top five publicly voted entries and 20 jury-selected pieces from the four ArtPrize categories – 2-D, 3-D, Installation and Time-based. In the end, 40 finalists will compete for the top prize of $200,000, which will be awarded to two artists, and $12,500 will be awarded to eight finalists in the category awards. Voting can be done by computer or by the ArtPrize mobile app, available for free on Android and iOS devices. For more information on voting and everything ArtPrize, click here.
