The Information Technology Department at Grand Rapids Community College is providing free technical assistance to students during Tech Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Raider Grille.
Students are encouraged to take their phones, computers or tablets to Tech Day for help with troubleshooting and free recommendations from the IT experts at GRCC. Director of IT Customer Support Kurt Meinders says the department wants to help students with their academic success through technology.
“We wanted to proactively offer assistance to students so that we can help reduce some of the barriers to completing coursework,” Meinders said. “Classes are hard enough without worrying if your technology is functioning or if you can get into your accounts.”
According to Meinders, the IT Department not only offers students technical support; they offer discounted software and people in the department ready to help aid students with their technology needs.
Tech Day will offer students a chance to meet with an IT specialist who can assist in diagnosing computer issues, updating software recommendations, software training and more.
“If students are having issues with their devices, we can help them troubleshoot, offer recommendations and walk them through some of the features they may not be aware of,” Meinders said. “We are there to assist in whatever way we can.”
As an added bonus to students who participate during Tech Day, the IT Department is giving away a Latitude 5290 2-in-1 tablet and keyboard from Dell Computers to one student.
Meinders says the event is a chance for students to meet.
“It’s a great way to connect to the students, offer up some swag and prizes and have fun,” Meinders said.
