The Grand Rapids Community College is hosting a Music Department Guest Recital consisting of members from alumni and faculty performing together. This recital is set to take place at 7:30 on Thursday, Oct. 25 in room 200 of the Albert P. Smith Music Center, Linn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall.
Musicians who will be performing include, Mary Scanlan who will be playing the piano, Libor Ondras who will be playing the viola and Jody Doktor who will be singing.
Scanlan and Doktor are both GRCC alumni faculty whereas Ondras is a current faculty member. The three alumni faculty performers have varied backgrounds in music and education.
Doktor was on the voice faculty before completing her doctorate in voice performance in Ann Arbor. Scanlan was a pianist and retired from college in 2008 and Scanlan was a pianist and retired from the college in 2008. The newest member, Ondras, is currently on the faculty at GRCC as a conductor and violist.
They will be performing as a trio for this recital. Doktor has been performing for a decade and has performed with Scanlan in the past.
“Dr. Mary Scanlan and I both used to work as professors at GRCC,” Doktor said. “About 10 years ago we were in a trio and during that time we did perform two of the works that we are offering this week.”
The music they are performing ranges from the 1800’s to the 1900’s from multiple artists. These artists are Johannes Brahms, Gerald Finzi, Frank Bridge and Antonin Dvorak.
Admission is free for students and the general public.
