December 5 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, rapper Jacques Webster, also known as Travis Scott, played to a sold out crowd. Scott enjoyed focusing his tour around his hometown Houston, Texas. Targeting the main focus of his tour, ASTROWORLD: WISH YOU WERE HERE, on an old amusement park with the same name which closed in in 2005. After it shut down, Scott began writing music and had a festival in honor of the theme park in Houston early November this year.
The show’s setlist featured opening acts: Virgil Abloh, Sheck Wes, Trippie Redd and Gunna. Unfortunately for last night’s show, only Sheck Wes and Gunna made it out. I was disappointed only because I am a Trippie Redd fan. Adding to my disappointment, Scott only came out for about an hour and a half. It was an unforgettable show, but a little short. Other than that, Scott kicked the show off with the first song off his album, STARGAZING,” jumping on stage while fireworks and fire went off.
Travis’ work definitely showed, with bringing the amusement park back to life. Having circular roller coaster that made a 360 along with another roller coaster that rode throughout the middle of the arena. Scott rode both rides and even sang upside down when riding the coaster. Also having curtains go down later in the show when “R.I.P Screw,” another song on Scott’s album, came on and video footage played. I give props to Scott’s video production crew because the visuals on the curtains and screens were astounding and definitely dope.
Last night’s show definitely had us off our feet, especially when Scott’s number one song “SICKO MODE” came on to end the show. The crowd went wild and it definitely felt “sick” to see everyone around singing together and jumping like we were on hot rocks. I would definitely recommend and go to Scott’s next tour.
