Grand Rapids Community College’s pep rally on Thursday at the Student Plaza was the place to be for students to pump up their school spirit.

The Student Plaza was already busy with students as the pep rally began. There was a long line under the student tent where students could swipe their RaiderCard to get free GRCC goodies like a fleece roll-up blanket, foam finger, homecoming t-shirt, pin and drawstring bag. Along with the free swag, students received a red wristband giving them access to the food from the two food trucks on deck and spray on tattoos.

Alongside the food trucks and student tent with goodies, an ice sculpture was being made with the GRCC homecoming logo on it.

GRCC student Michael Gumbko expressed his excitement for the pep rally and the homecoming game that followed on Friday.

“I’m amped, this (pep rally) is for the big homecoming game,” Gumbko said. “We get to reveal the Ford Fieldhouse to the community. I’m so excited. This is going to be a great game tomorrow, and it’s starting with a great night of free food.”

The GRCC pep rally was one of the many planned events during Homecoming Week. The week will wrap up on Friday with a tailgate and women’s and men’s basketball games starting at 5 p.m. at the north end of the Hunsberger Arena in the newly renovated Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.
