The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team has had an unbelievable season, one in which they were crowned the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference champions.
This is the school’s first conference championship since the 2003-2004 season. There is still a lot left to be determined as they will face Henry Ford College on Saturday, March 2 in Dearborn, Michigan to determine the MCCAA State Champion.
Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Raiders will return home for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region XII Championships hosted by GRCC in the Gerald R. Fieldhouse from March 7-9.
The Collegiate has been covering the Raiders’ run to the conference championship all season long. On this video slideshow, we caught up with GRCC athletic director Bill Firn, head coach Luke Bronkema, and sophomore players Ike Kanu and Diego Robinson to ask them what this conference championship means to them.
