Grand Rapids Community College will host its annual Salute to Women from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center Banquet Room.
Hosted by GRCC’s Bob and Aleica Woodrick Center for Equity and Inclusion, the 21st iteration, “culminates Women’s History Month by honoring all nominees as well as Award recipients,” said B. Afeni McNeely Cobham, the center’s chief equity and inclusion officer.
Nominees are divided into four categories: employees, alumna, student and former employees.
Academic Advisor Sara Brooks, Nursing Program Alumna Mandy Boos and Biology Major Stephany Mendez-Ortega, among seven more, are nominated in their respective categories.
“The Salute to Women Award celebrates the accomplishments of women with ties to Grand Rapids Community College,” McNeely Cobham said. “Annually, women who exemplify high achievement in community service, leadership and student engagement are nominated for consideration of the Salute to Women Award.”
Recipients of each category will be announced at the reception while students are encouraged to, “engage with diverse women from across GRCC’s campus that model service-leadership and achievement.”
As for expectations, McNeely Cobham says, “It is my hope that attendees are inspired by the contributions of nominees.”
