The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team picked up a pair of wins in a Saturday double-header against the Ancilla College Chargers in Donaldson, Indiana.
The Raiders and Chargers were scheduled for a home-and-home series with the two teams playing in Grand Rapids on Friday, then Donaldson on Saturday. However, the field in Grand Rapids was not yet ready to be played on after the recent rains, so the Raiders headed down to play four games in two days all on the Chargers’ turf.
Saturday was the Raiders’ first Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference play, and they came out dominant. GRCC won the first game 17-2 with Logan Campbell picking up the win for the Raiders. Calvin Syrjala had a big day at the plate with four RBI’s and a home run. Jared Bujdos also had two hits including a homer of his own.
In the second game of the back-to-back, the Raiders bats stayed hot once again hanging a 17-spot on the Chargers, this time winning 17-6. Bujdos had another big game at the plate with three hits while Jordan Ball and Brady Paganelli added four and three hits respectively.
After the game, Raiders’ head coach Mike Eddington talked about the team’s offensive performance in the conference opener wins.
“We swung the bats great today,” Eddington said. “We need to continue to work hard and get better every day.”
The Raiders are now 2-0 in conference play and will look to pick up where they left off tomorrow when they face the Chargers for another double-header in Donaldson starting at noon.
