The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team took both games of a doubleheader against the Glen Oaks Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Belknap Park.
They won the first game 9-8, with Dakota Phillips hitting a game-winning home run for the Raiders, while the entire team was getting in on the action in game two, as they won in a 14-5 route.
Head coach Mike Eddington was pleased with the team’s performance in the second game, both offensively and defensively.
“I thought it was just a good team win,” said Eddington. “We had a number of players be important parts of the team in both pitching and hitting.”
Eddington was also pleased with the offense in particular in both games of the doubleheader.
“Yeah the offense swung the bats better than what they have been,” Eddington said. “The last couple weeks they had been busy with studying for finals and then finals last week. It seemed like the players were a little bit looser with having school done.”
With the sweep, the Raiders improved to 20-21 overall on the season and 15-9 in conference. Their next home game will be another doubleheader against Ivy Tech Community College on Wednesday, May 1. The first game will start at 2 p.m.
