The Grand Rapids Community College Academic Advising and Transfer Center (AATC) is holding open academic advising throughout the month of August.
Open advising is designed to assist students with academic advising needs for the Fall 2019 semester. If you need help with Winter 2020 or forward, it would be better to schedule an appointment in September or October.
You need to be in the AATC an hour before open advising closes for the day in order to get your name on the waitlist to ensure that the counseling center has adequate time to assist you. Open advising is on a first-come, first-served basis. Advisers will call students in the order they are on the list, so be sure to sign in as soon as you arrive. Because of the nature of open advising, the AATC team can’t determine how many students will need to be served at any specific day or time. Sometimes the staff will need to stop accepting additional names for the day before the scheduled end time. The team will do its best to accommodate and serve all students.
Annie Petzold, who is one of the receptionists at the counseling center, explained the importance of open academic advising.
“We only have limited offering for appointments,” Petzold said. “We are booked through August 23, so this is really the only opportunity for students who want to have their questions answered.”
Petzold also said that the counseling center has offered opening advising leading up to the start of the fall semester in the past.
The Academic Advising and Transfer Center is located on the third floor of the Student Center, room 327. You can call them at 616-234-3900 if you have any questions. You can find the open academic advising schedule here.
