Grand Rapids Community College administrators alerted students to be cautious after an attempted robbery was reported near campus on July 30.
According to the campus-wide email, the Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday in a private parking lot near College Avenue and Lyon Street. This area is not within GRCC’s boundaries, but both the college as well as campus police believe students and staff should be aware.
According to the email, the victim reported being approached in the parking lot by a subject brandishing a black, semi-automatic handgun. At gunpoint, the victim was told to drop all belongings and give them to the suspect. The suspect was reportedly scared off by a vehicle and left northbound on foot. The victim was not able to give a distinguishing description of the suspect.
