The Hispanic Student Organization is sponsoring a blood drive scheduled from 10 am.-3 p.m. Tues., Oct. 1.
The blood drive will be in room 205 in the Student Center, next door to The Raider Grill. Anyone is welcome to come donate. Appointments can be made on Versiti.org. If students know of any members in The Hispanic Student Organization, they can help as well.
“We encourage students to make appointments to (donate) because that helps us keep it flowing, but of course walk-ins are welcome,” said Liz Collver, 32, Versiti Account Representative. All donations will be sent to local hospitals in Grand Rapids within 2-3 days. The campus goal for GRCC is 22 donations. In past years, the college has collected more than that in a single day.
Donors must bring a valid photo ID, preferably a state ID or driver’s license to the blood drive, not your raider card. And should expect the donation to take around 45-60 minutes.
According to The American Red Cross, donors should be well rested, drink an extra 16 oz. of water, eat a good meal avoiding fatty foods prior to the donation, and wear a shirt with sleeves that can easily be rolled up above the elbow. After you donate, be sure to eat a snack and drink plenty of fluids, avoiding alcohol.
