Grand Rapids Community College’s Volleyball team went 3-1 in the Monroe College Invitational. They won their sets 3-0 versus Hartford Community College, lose 3-0 against Monroe College, they won 3-0 against Richard Bland College, and won 3-2 Montgomery College-Rockville.

Danielle Johnston led the team with 35 kills in tournament, Jamie Rozell was second in 27. Jasmine Wellet led with seven aces and led the team with 69 digs.

It was a unique experience for the team playing in a cultural mecca like New York. Jamie Wellet spoke on this opportunity they had stating, “New York was a great experience, being able to go to the city and see all of the buildings was cool… Playing at Monroe college was not too different from home.

“Overall we played well, going 3-1 was good for us,” Wellet said. “The one loss we had was good for us because it gave us insight on what we can improve on and add to our team to be even better. Throughout the tournament through the team played for each other and everyone could feel that. Looking into the rest of the season, going to New York gave a new look on what we can do and where we can go. We have the capability to go far and need to strive for that in every single game we play. Getting better every point should be our goal and that will help us go far at the end of the season.”

They are now 21-6 overall and will face Kellogg Community College 6:30p.m. Tuesday, October 15, at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.
