Grand Rapids Community College Women’s volleyball team defeated Mott Community Saturday, Nov. 2 to clinch their fourth consecutive MCCAA title, their seventh one since 2010. They won their sets 3-1, the scores were 25-27, 25-9, 25-16, 25-23. It was their eighth straight win and they finished 15-1 in conference.
It was a great moment for the team as they were joyous for their victory, but they remain focused their overall goal.
“It was really great to win the state title four years in a row,” sophomore Jamie Wellet said.
“It really shows the hard work we put in and how well we are able to do together as a team. These next (few) days we will be practicing and staying focused, making sure we are taking care of our bodies by eating well and getting sleep. We have another chance to make history and will give our best every second on the court.”
Sophomore Danielle Johnston led the team with 23 kills and Annie Holesinger was second with nine kills. Jamie Wellet led with 22 assists and Kailey Carmean was second with 14 assists.
The Raiders are 27-6 overall and their next game will be in the Great Lakes B District Tournament at 8 p.m., Nov. 7, in Port Huron.
