On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Grand Rapids Community College cross country team wrapped up its cross country teams at nationals in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The entire women’s team, alongside three individual runners from the men’s team, competed.
The women’s team placed 23rd in the nation and was led by a strong personal best from freshman Kiah Becker. Her 20:19 time landed her a 58th place finish, second in the conference, and second place in the record books for GRCC women’s cross-country.
Freshman Diana Candela finished in 107th place out of all the runners, and eighth place within the conference. Her 21:12 time is the fifth-best time in GRCC history.
Freshman Carolanne Merlington was close behind Candela, finishing 11th within the conference and 135th overall, with a time of 21:37. Her time was the eighth fastest in Raider’s history.
More notable Raider performances was that of sophomore William Westeveer, who ran his best race to this date. His 27:17 was good for 120th in the country and seventh all-time in Raider history.
Freshman Jack Kehoe ran a 29:04, finishing 238th in the country. Freshman Matthew Converse ran a 28:37, which saw him finish 212th.
