The raved-about Broadway show “Hamilton” has come to Grand Rapids, and brings a Lucky Seat ticket lottery with it. The current lottery, open until Wednesday at 9 a.m., is for the Thursday Jan. 30 show. There are nine more shows after that, with the final curtain call on Sun. Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
“Digital lotteries will begin two days prior to each performance,” Broadway Grand Rapids stated in a press release.
There are 40 seats reserved on the main floor for lottery winners at each show, according to Broadway GR Director of Marketing and Public Relations Meghan Distel. Distel stated that winners of the lottery only have to pay $10 for a ticket and are all allowed to purchase up to two tickets.
That is a substantial discount, considering that the venue is charging upwards of $200 for main floor tickets. For the last show on Sun. Feb. 9, the venue is charging more than $600 per ticket, with most of them being above the $1,000 mark.
Those interested in trying their luck in the lottery can download the official Hamilton app or use the lottery website. Entering the lottery is free, and the only requirements for participants are that they be 18 or older and have a valid picture ID, according to Distel and the press release.
The lucky winners will be notified the day before the show. They can pick up their tickets at the will call window up to two hours before their show.
According to Distel, the shows “Wicked” and “The Book of Mormon” run their own lotteries, so this isn’t necessarily the last opportunity to get cheap musical tickets. On the other hand, neither show is scheduled to visit GR this year. The closest scheduled “The Book of Mormon” visit is in Cincinnati, Ohio this August. Wicked visits East Lansing in April.
