Broken Vending Machine Incorrectly Charges $560
According to a police report filed on Feb. 6, a Canteen Food vending machine on the 5th floor of the Calkins Science Center incorrectly charged $560 to a woman’s credit card.
According to the police report, the woman had tried to use the vending machine at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5. The machine appeared to accept her credit card but then did not distribute any product. The woman then used a nearby vending machine instead which worked properly. Later, the woman checked her account on her banking app and discovered that the vending machine had incorrectly charged her $560. According to the woman all other charges were correct.
The woman was given the contact information for the vending machine owner, Canteen Food Services, and advised to call them to get the charge corrected. She was also advised to call the department again if she required more help or if she was having any trouble recouping the money.
GRCC Employee’s Parked Vehicle Damaged
According to a police report filed on Feb. 11, a Grand Rapids Community College employee’s vehicle was damaged while it was left parked on the Lyon Street parking ramp.
The employee had found the vehicle damaged after leaving it parked on the third level of the parking ramp in the employee area between 10:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 10. The damage consisted of a large dent on the right side of the car’s rear hatchback and a damaged bumper cover. The employee had already obtained an estimate for repairing the damage and said it was approximately $3,000. No witnessess or suspects exist, so no further action will be taken by the police department.
