As a Grand Rapids Community College student, one of many realities of campus life is parking and everything connected with it. During the 2019-2020 school year, the restricted parking structures has been a hot topic amongst students, staff, and faculty here at GRCC. In several instances students have expressed the time consuming, confusing, and costly process of parking, going to class, and leaving. Students have been provided an opportunity to give feedback on this issue through a survey.
Student Alliance (SA) has been working with Executive Director and Operational Planner, Victoria Janowiak of GRCC’s Devos Campus, on making parking in The Bostwick and The Lyon ramps more user friendly for those using it. This survey is designed for students and is a part of the effort in improving the parking issue here on campus.
President of SA and student at GRCC, Emma Johnson, says, “Student Alliance teamed up with Victoria Janowiak and others from the parking committee to create a survey in order to get student feedback in regards to what can improve parking on campus.”
When asking Johnson for her stance on parking, Johnson replied with little hesitation, “I feel as if the parking here at GRCC can be improved.”
A multitude of other students have expressed the same stance on the issue.
On Feb. 20, Student Alliance, being the bridge between the faculty and the student body, were tabling for student feedback through parking surveys on the first floor of the Student Center across from the Student Life office. The goal of these surveys is to get student feedback on parking. If you or anyone you know is willing to weigh in on the revamping of parking structures here on campus, you can stop by Student Alliance’s tabling booth this Thurs., Feb. 27, from 12-2pm. If a survey is completed, free SA T-shirts will be gifted upon request.
