Grand Rapids Community College’s Student Alliance held a short meeting Feb. 20 during which student leaders reviewed the Student Alliance budget, approved extra funds for GRCC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter, and filled out a survey on campus parking.
The meeting started with an ice-breaker where student leaders took turns introducing themselves and their positions in student government or the student clubs they represented.
The Operations Director for Student Alliance, Emily Myszak, then went over the alliance’s budget. According to Myszak, the total budget came out to just under $42,000.
Anders Rottschafer, the president of Alpha Upsilon Kappa, GRCC’s chapter of PTK, gave a presentation requesting the allocation of $4,500 in extra funds for the chapter’s participation in PTK’s Catalyst.
Rottschafer said that participation in the event was a requirement for the chapter to be able to keep its five-star status and maintaining that status is necessary for the chapter to continue to provide GRCC students with scholarship opportunities.
The extra funds were approved with a vote of 8 in favor, 0 opposed, and 2 abstentions.
To close out the meeting, everyone was encouraged to fill out a survey created to get student’s feedback on campus parking.
The meeting was short as a scheduled presentation by Corey Turner was postponed and rescheduled for the next Student Alliance meeting on Mar. 12.
