Reign of the Tiger King: Desperate viewing habits in desperate times

A still from "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness." [Netflix]

So, for those of you keeping track, many of us have been at home since March, and the stay at home order has been extended until April 30. Which means all of us who are not “ essential workers” are stuck at home, and that means there’s going to be a lot of binge watching. Now as I stated in a previous story there are quite a few shows you can stream during this Corona crisis, however, some are desperate for something new, something different, something… strange. And thus they turn to sigh …  “Tiger King.”

“Tiger King” is a Netflix original true crime documentary mini series which tells the tale of numerous big cat conservationists and breeders. The show especially focuses on the feud between a borderline insane, foul mouthed, and rash zoo owner (and judging by his god awful bleached mullet, an ‘80s reject), Joe Exotic, and big cat conservationist Carole Baskin, who has been linked by the docudrama to the untimely disappearance of her husband. Hey, I told you it’s a strange show. But some would say we need that in these times as it distracts from the grim truth that the Corona virus is spreading everywhere

The very fact that “Tiger King” is as popular and successful as it is could be seen as proof of how desperate people in quarantine are to amuse themselves. So desperate that they would watch such lunacy as “Tiger King”. I mean, even I’m guilty of it. I shudder to think what the next big binge watch show is going to be. However, as long as it’s not another one featuring Honey Boo Boo I think we’ll be fine.
