Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Grand Rapids Community College has postponed the 103rd Commencement to August 1.
On May 1 – the date many planned to graduate, GRCC Communications Director Dave Murray sent out a press release that stated the targeted date is now three months away. Graduates were notified in March that GRCC’s graduation had to be postponed.
GRCC President Bill Pink sent a video to all students that were eligible to graduate this semester, noting that even with the commencement postponed students will receive their recognition.
“You will have your moment in the sun this year, it will just be delayed,” said Pink. “Nothing should prevent you from celebrating now as well… I promise you’ll get the recognition you deserve.”
Pink also mentioned that although the exact format of the commencement has yet to be determined, GRCC officials will continue to work with health officials to determine the best option. The date was selected through a survey that was sent out to graduating GRCC students.
Updates for campus related events can be found on GRCC’s COVID-19 tab.
