In a normal year, the Michigan Press Association holds a convention filled with journalism workshops culminating with the annual awards banquet. However due to COVID-19, the 2020 MPA’s College Better Newspaper Contest results were announced via Zoom.
Even without the pomp and circumstance of usual conventions, the MPA hosted Michigan journalists for the annual awards. The Collegiate was among the winners this year winning five awards.
Individual awards for Collegiate reporters were:
Best Writer – First Place, Brianna Wetherbee
Editorial – Second Place, The Collegiate Staff, We need more information: the shortcomings of class selection process at GRCC
Editorial – Third Place, The Collegiate Staff, One Vote Should Equal One Vote
News Story – First Place, Brianna Whetherbee , This is not the night you want to try it: civil emergency proclaimed for Grand Rapids, curfew enacted
