On Thursday, May 27, First Lady Jill Biden is scheduled to visit Grand Rapids Community College during a walk-in vaccination clinic being held on the DeVos Campus.
The vaccination clinic will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and was announced on Monday, May 24, via an email from GRCC President Bill Pink. An hour later the news of Biden’s visit went public. Biden is expected to visit GRCC at 12:45 p.m.
Throughout the pandemic, GRCC has put measures in place to ensure the safety of its faculty and students. Although the college has had to work through an abundance of uncertainty, administrators have been able to adapt by making classes virtual, and implementing mask mandates and social distancing throughout the buildings on campus.
As we watch our country work to get to a form of pre-pandemic life, GRCC students are hoping to see a more normal-looking semester in the fall. The college is hoping to offer more in-person classes, activities and celebrations.
To achieve this goal, the college is encouraging students and families to get vaccinated.
“I encourage GRCC students to be vaccinated against COVID-19,” President Pink stated in an email on Monday to the GRCC community. “Getting vaccinated offers an additional layer of protection to protect your family, friends, and community. All COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States have been deemed as safe and effective. Stopping this pandemic requires using all the tools we have available— including getting vaccinated.”
The First Lady will be traveling to Grand Rapids on Thursday to highlight the partnership between federal retail pharmacy partners and community colleges.
