Greetings Nightlighters it is I “ the king of all noobs” Jamie Miller here with yet another issue of Nightlight. Now dear readers, as you may know, I am a fan of video games, “my skill varies from day-to-day,” so imagine my surprise and joy when I realized the amount of actors and actresses who did voices in video games. After all, I am also a fan of movies and TV. I highly suggest you read on as the names may surprise you.
Neil Patrick Harris is well known for roles such as Barney Stinson in “How I Met Your Mother” and Doogie Howser in “Doogie Howser M.D.” However, you may not know he has also done voices in a few video games. He voiced the primary Spider-Man in “Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions” and wannabe gangster DJ Veteran Child in “Saints Row 2”. I will tell you what, it’s a weird sensation to gun down Dr. Horrible. “For those who don’t know Harris played in Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog”
Seth Green is well known to most as the creator of “Robot Chicken” and for voicing Chris Griffin on “Family Guy.” However, you may find it interesting to know that Green also provides his voice to the “Mass Effect” series, one of my personal favorite video game series. Green voices the character of Jeff “Joker” Moreau, the wickedly sarcastic pilot of the SSV Normandy, the ship that Commander Shepard your character is in charge of.
Liam Neeson is a legendary actor known for such roles as Bryan Mills in the “Taken” trilogy, Oskar Schindler in “Schindler list” and Peyton Westlake in “Darkman.” However, it may surprise you to know he provided his voice in “Fallout 3” where he voices your character’s father James, a scientist and doctor who sets in motion the events of the game. Getting to play Qui Gon Jinn’s son was interesting, to say the least.
Peter Dinklage is well known for playing Tyrion Lannister in “Game of Thrones.” However, he also lent his voice to “Destiny” being the original voice of Ghost, the A.I. companion to the player character. Now I must admit, I didn’t play a whole bunch of “Destiny”, but to know that the man behind the most entertaining house Lannister is Ghost’s voice makes me want to play it a whole bunch more.
Chloe Grace Mortez is a beyond well known actress who has played such roles as Mindy Macready/Hit-Girl in “Kick-Ass” and the vampire Abby in “Let Me In”. However, she also lent her voice to “Dishonored” playing the part of Lady Emily, daughter of the Empress Jessamine Kaldwin and protagonist Corvo Attano, and the true heir to the throne, who Attano attempts to assist. This game is one I have always had an interest in playing and now knowing that she voiced a character makes me want to even more.
I can’t in good conscience, not mention one of the most legendary actors who has lent their voice to video games, that being the one and only Mark Hamill. Hamill is known for playing Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” series. However, he is also well known for his voice work, having voiced Fire Lord Ozai in the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series, and for voicing the Joker in pretty much every Batman cartoon or video game since 1992. However, he has done voices in not just one video game but numerous. From “Yakuza” to the “Arkham” series of Batman games to even the kid’s game “Lego Marvel’s Avengers” Hamill truly has done it all.
That was just a small taste of some famous names who have done voice work in video games. There are far more than I had time to write in this list.
