MCCAA Announces Academic Awards: Adding To The Success Of The Raiders Athletic Program

On June 16, The Michigan Community College Athletic Association announced the academic awards for the 2020-21 season, with all eight GRCC teams having at least one student athlete recognized on the MCCAA Academic All-Conference list.

In order to receive Academic All-Conference honors, students must earn at least 24 credits with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Thirty-nine student-athletes at GRCC made the MCCAA Academic All-Conference team.

To receive Academic All-MCCAA, a student must earn at least 24 credits with a 3.2 GPA. This honor went to 34 student-athletes.

Two teams for the Raiders, volleyball and women’s cross country, were announced as MCCAA All-Academic Team, requiring a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The volleyball team had a cumulative GPA of 3.24, and the women’s cross country team had a GPA of 3.17

Two freshmen on the GRCC volleyball team, Audrey Gower and Alena Visnovsky, had a 4.0.

Sophomore Mariah Vos had the highest GPA for the women’s cross country team, securing a 3.88 GPA.

The academic success was followed by great performances in each sport. Five of the eight GRCC teams made a trip to the national tournament including the men’s and women’s cross country teams, women’s basketball, volleyball and the golf team.
