GRCC Laptop, Headset and Hotspot Reported Stolen off a Park Bench

On June 28 at 8:02 a.m., Officer Robert Peters was dispatched to a possible report of larceny. The complainant met Peters in the Grand Rapids Community College Police Department office. The man told Peters that the electronics he borrowed from GRCC had been stolen. He stated that earlier this year, in May, the electronics he borrowed from GRCC – a HP laptop, a wireless headset, and a hotspot – were stolen off a bench in Heartside Park.

Peters asked the man if he had filed a report with the Grand Rapids Police Department, and he said he had tried to do so the previous night. The man was told to file a report with them and then give the report number to Peters once it was filed.

Peters reached out to a GRCC library employee, letting them know that the man was reporting stolen GRCC property. Peters was able to get more information on the devices that were borrowed and records show that the man borrowed them on May 26.

Sleeping Person Found at College Park Plaza

On June 28 at 6:09 a.m., Officer Paul Coulson found a sleeping person under the stairway of the College Park Plaza next to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church parking lot. Officer Kaye Newberry arrived on the scene for backup.

The man was asleep and covered in blankets. Coulson asked the man to sit up and show his hands. The man was cooperative and identified himself right away. He mentioned he’d recently been beaten and robbed, and as a result, had no identification with him. This man had no previous contact with the GRCC Police Department and had no warrants. He was given a verbal warning for trespassing on college property and then he exited the area.
