Grand Rapids Community College honors students are gathering on the first floor of the Student Life Center Tuesday, Nov. 30 for an opportunity to gather food donations from students while participating in the paint by numbers mural project.
“I came up with the idea for students to participate in an interactive visual arts piece like the paint by numbers,” stated GRCC honors student Veronica Miller. “But without my teammates Brooke and Aaliyah, none of this would be possible.”
Due to the college’s COVID-19 social distancing protocols, the honors students would like to limit the event to students who are donating. However, other members of the GRCC community are still invited to participate.
“My team and I would like to limit event participants to GRCC college students only, but others from the community are more than welcome to donate to the food pantry at any time,” Miller stated.
Though the three students mentioned are planning to move on from the college by the end of the academic year, Miller would like to see GRCC continue the tradition of events like these to bring the community together.
“We would love to continue this Giving Tuesday event in the future…” Miller stated. “We hope that the college faculty whom we have worked closely with and/or other students will be moved by the positive effect of this event and continue it for us.”
The event will take place on the first floor of the Student Life Center from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students who donate food (canned goods, non-perishable items) will receive a Rise Authentic Baking Co. donut in return and will be able to participate in the painting of the food pantry mural.
