If anyone had told me that The Weeknd was making an 80’s pop-inspired album a few years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it. Instead, after listening to “Dawn FM,” I can simply say that this is the best album The Weeknd has put out to date.

The album starts with a quick verse sung by The Weeknd and transitions into a radio commercial by a DJ that states, “You are now listening to 103.5 Dawn FM; you’ve been in the dark for way too long, It’s time; to walk into the light.” The DJ’s voice is mesmerizing and sucks you into this album. You are guided on a musical journey throughout the entirety of it. The DJ is none other than Jim Carrey, the world-famous actor who arguably peaked in the 1990s. Carrey offers a breath of fresh air every few tracks and helps you relax as you listen to the release.

The album has many memorable moments, including features from Tyler the Creator and Lil Wayne, which help enrich the listening experience. They appear on “Here We Go… Again” and “I Heard You’re Married,” respectively.

In addition to these standouts, “Take My Breath” is one of the tracks that you’ll keep coming back to as you play this collection of music.

Overall, the album is one of the best albums I’ve listened to in the past few months. If you’re looking for something relaxing, this is a good choice. It takes you back to the 1980s and plugs you into the period. It helps you reimagine the 1980s in style and will keep you glued to your seat for the whole wild ride.

Some of the best songs are “Take My Breath,” “Starry Eyes,” and “Here We Go… Again…” Tyler the Creator’s special guest appearance on that last one showcases his masterful lyrics yet again.

I can safely say that The Weeknd has matured as an artist, and this album is a start to something new in his career. I can’t wait to see what is next for him and hope to see more music coming soon.

Rating: 9/10 for the vibe it offers and Jim Carrey as a DJ.
