The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team tallied wins in the first two of a four game weekend series, defeating Kalamazoo Valley Community College 8-2 in game one and 4-1 during game two.

The Raider offense came out hot during game one, with every batter recording a hit, totaling 18 as a team. Freshman Xander Reisbig went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while freshman Zacarias Salinas and redshirt-freshman Camden Keatley each added two hits and plated two runners a piece.

GRCC set the tone early, as redshirt-freshman Ryan Dykstra went yard with two outs in the top of the first. Freshman Dylan Chargo, Reisbig, and Salinas all followed with hits of their own. The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead and ran away with it.

Redshirt-freshman Jerad Berkenpas took the mound for the Raiders in game one. He allowed one earned run (two total), six hits and struck out five, notching his sixth win of the season.

KVCC put up a fight in game two, holding the Raiders to four runs on seven hits. They did their best to keep themselves within striking distance but couldn’t generate the offense necessary to get the win, totaling just two hits as a team.

Redshirt-freshman Caleb Engelsman, Chargo, and Keatley all drove in runs during a low scoring game two, but they were more than enough with pitcher redshirt-freshman Drew Murphy on the mound. Murphy went six innings, gave up just two hits (one run) and whiffed 10 batters on the way to his third win of the season.

The pair of wins brings the Raiders to 22-20-1 for the year as we continue through the final stretch of the season.
