Grand Rapids Community College’s Student Alliance held their second Town Hall meeting of the school year Thursday, Sept. 22. A Town Hall is where students can meet to express their ideas with Student Alliance and vote on fund allocation and student decisions.
The meeting was led by Student Alliance President Pablo Villalvazo who started the meeting with two allocation requests. The Film Club requested $1,000 for a copyright purchase to show “The Social Network” on campus and to bring in food for the event. Raider Nation Gaming requested $500 for all of their refreshments for the semester, both of which passed.
Please note that there is $92,500 available for student organizations to apply for and use for this semester. To request funds, email President Villalvazo or any of the other members of the Student Alliance, you can contact them here.
President Villalvazo proposed ideas for a potential meeting space for students to gather, strictly for students. Concepts were passed around to make it a lounge or service area, a sort of quiet space. Discussions didn’t come to a conclusive end so the plan will be brought forward again at future meetings.
Student Alliance leadership has a position open, the role of Operations Director needs to be filled.
“The Operations Director role is a logistical role that oversees the communications between allocating funds between student orgs (organizations) and Student Alliance,” Villalvazo said.
According to the president, there have been no applications yet and Student Alliance is eager to interview students willing to fill the position. If you’d like to apply, please see the application form attached to the Student Alliance Raider Connect page.
If you’d like to be a part of Student Alliance meetings please RSVP on Raider Connect. The next meeting is Thursday Oct. 6 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room 500 on the fifth floor of Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall. Meetings are held every other Thursday in that same room.
