The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team traveled to Livonia to face Schoolcraft College on Wednesday, Nov. 15. After trailing by eight points in the first half, the Raiders were able to secure the victory 91-82.
“The game was very back and forth throughout,” head coach Joe Fox said. “We were down eight at halftime, and did a great job bringing energy in the second half.”
GRCC and Schoolcraft went back and forth in the first half, but the second half was dominated by the Raiders. In the first half, the Raiders scored 41 points, made five free throws, and committed 10 team fouls. A key adjustment was made in the second half defensively, and the Raiders exploded for 50 second-half points. They went 12-16 from the free throw line and only had eight fouls during that period.
“The team stayed consistent the whole game,” Fox said. “High energy, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm led to a great team win.”
Back-to-back MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week, sophomore Danyel Bibbs, displayed hustle while scoring 14 points. However, freshman Bashir Neely led the team in scoring with 18 points. Other big contributors were sophomore Brockton Kohler’s 14 points and freshman Jordan Houser’s 11 points.
“It’s hard to single out a particular performance since the team as a whole played great,” Fox said. “Jordan Houser got his first start and played very well, Myron Brewer made a huge three down the stretch, and Bashir Neely made some great plays as well.”
The Raiders improve to 5-0 on the season and look to continue their winning streak against Harper College when GRCC travels to Palatine, Illinois on Friday, Nov. 17.
