Kathryn Mullins, the Executive Director of the Grand Rapid Community College Foundation and Vice President of College Advancement, has been named the new Vice President of Advancement and Marketing at Ferris State University.

Her appointment was announced by Ferris President Bill Pink, formerly GRCC president, on Nov. 28. Mullins will assume her role at Ferris in early 2023, replacing Shelly Pearcy, the previous Vice President of Advancement and Marketing for Ferris.

Mullins has been the executive director of the GRCC Foundation since 2012 and has been a part of GRCC’s staff since 2004, serving as the executive deputy to the president and liaison to the Board of Trustees. Within the past year, The GRCC foundation raised $1.4 million in scholarships for more than 1,600 students of GRCC with events and fundraisers such as the annual Scholarfest, the largest scholarship event held for GRCC. She also raised funds to build the GRCC Lakeshore Campus and to renovate the Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall and Custer Alumni House.

“The great thing about finishing up my career here at Grand Rapids Community College and moving to Ferris is that it’s a wonderful extension because Ferris is one of the top schools for our students from GRCC,” said Mullins. “It’s a natural extension of the work that I do here at GRCC and watching our students finish up and transfer from GRCC to Ferris.”

While at GRCC, Mullins has also directed the college’s web and digital strategy, communications, as well as grants and development.

“I am thrilled to have Dr. Mullins join our leadership team and the Ferris family,” Pink said. “The level of experience and expertise that she will bring to Ferris is hard to find, particularly in how rooted that experience is in the West Michigan community,”  Pink stated in an article posted on the Ferris website. “Kathy was a vital part of my leadership team at Grand Rapids Community College, and I am honored to have her join me on our leadership team here at Ferris State University.”

Mullins will be taking over the Ferris Foundation, alumni relations and the alumni association, marketing communications, news services, and web content at Ferris and helping to reach their $115 million goal for the Now and Always Comprehensive Campaign.
