The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team defeated Detroit Community Christian College 107-97 on Wednesday, Nov. 30
“We were really excited to get another win,” head coach Joe Fox said. “It was a back and forth game, and I was pleased with how the guys executed in the last 10 minutes.”
After the first half of play the Raiders only had a two-point-lead, 46-44. Even though they were shooting well, 47% overall and 40% from the 3-point line, they would need to step up their play in the second half, which they did.
“A lot of guys made big plays down the stretch, but Herman Brown and JaJuan Walker really stood out in the second half,” Fox said. “They set the pace for us offensively.”
In the second half the Raiders shot 54% from the field and went 13-15 (86%) at the free throw line. JaJuan Walker led the team in scoring with 21 points, he added seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, one block, and shot 100% at the free throw line.
“We have a big challenge coming on Saturday with Glen Oaks,” Fox said. “We will need to be able to step up to handle their size and athleticism, we’re really looking forward to the challenge.”
After another big win for the Raiders, this puts their record at 7-0. Their next game is against Glen Oaks Community College on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. located at the Ford Fieldhouse.
