Finding things to do in the city can be tough for students, especially on a budget. While it would be easier to stay home this weekend and cuddle up as far away from the snow as possible, below are some activities that students can do this weekend that will help them connect with their community and keep busy during the weekend.
From 7- 10 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 27 witness a LED performance with fun beats at The Bob’s Beer Garden, located at 147 Fulton St. W. in Grand Rapids. The lineup includes tay.dnb, Venus Flyytrap and eRoy.
-Concert Under the Stars: Earth Radio Feat. Nate Eizenga
This Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Public Museum underneath the planetarium dome, there will be a fully immersive music experience put together by local artists. This is a new underground music experience for all indie music lovers. There will be refreshments provided. GRCC students can get in for $16. The museum is located at 272 Pearl St, NW, in Grand Rapids.
-Grand Rapids Community College Honor Band Concert
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 28 the GRCC music department band is holding a band concert at the St. Cecilia Music Center this Saturday at Royce Auditorium, 24 Ransom Ave. NE, in Grand Rapids. Students get in free with a valid GRCC ID at the door. To RSVP click here.
-Spicy Saturday at the Downtown Market
Saturday Jan.28, the Downtown Market is hosting a spicy food event. Shops in the market will have exotic spicy foods. Try things like spicy bread, chocolate, and even soda. The downtown market is open from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Saturday at 35 Ionia Ave SW in Grand Rapids.
-Orchid Show at Fredrick Meijer Garden
On Saturday, Jan. 28 there will be an orchid show at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, located at 1000 E. Beltline Ave NE in Grand Rapids, with orchid vendors from across the state. This is a good opportunity for all plant lovers that can’t wait for spring. Admissions to the whole park is $15 for students.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, at the Pux Cider Tap House, there will be an Emo Cover Night with local artists like The Skeems, The Outdates, and Life on the Murder Scene. They will be performing songs from artists like Paramore, Green Day, and My Chemical Romance. The Pux Cider Tap House is located at 311 Fuller Ave, NE Grand Rapids, Mi.
As a part of World of Winter GR, the Grand Rapids Asian Pacific Foundation is hosting a series of interactive story times about the Lunar New Year. World of Winter has many opportunities to learn about other cultures in the streets of Grand Rapids for free. This event is from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, at Studio Park Piazza, 121 Ionia Ave, SW.
