Grand Rapids Community College’s student publication, The Collegiate, won 20 awards at the Michigan Community College Press Association awards banquet. Held at Central Michigan University, the event brought together student journalists from community colleges across the state. The event is meant to recognize exceptional journalism at the community collegiate level and included 31 diverse categories.
The April 1 banquet included a keynote speech by Julie Stafford, a publisher of The Daily News and longtime journalist based in Greenville, as well as educational sessions from notable journalists from around the state. The event concluded with the awards ceremony.
Award winners are chosen by a group of judges, which according to the official MCCPA website are, “seasoned journalist professionals with years of experience in the field.” A list of The Collegiate’s recognitions is below.
