GRCC golf storms back in regional championship to advance to nationals led by Marchlewski

The Grand Rapids Community College men’s Golf team used their momentum from the dominant regular season to win their ninth regional championship on Tuesday, May 16, at the Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek. 

The first round went as expected for the Raiders as they held a three-stroke lead with a score of 308 after the first round. Freshmen Ty Marchlewski and Drew Harrington led GRCC during day one with scores of 75 and 76. 

Round two was more of a rough patch for the Raiders as the team totaled a score of 318 but only trailed by one stroke heading into the final round. In the final round, the Raiders shined when it mattered most as they finished with the lowest score of the day with a 308 while Marchlewski shot a team best 74 to claim the Regional Championship. The Raiders tallied a total of 934 points, Muskegon Community College finished in second place with a total score 941 and Glen Oaks Community College placed third with a score of 948. 

Marchlewski placed fourth with a score of 227 in the overall standings, while Harrington scored a 231 placing eighth and sophomores Conner Oman and Sam Foss tied for 13th place with a score of 238. Harrington led the team with six birdies while Marchlewski was right behind him with five birdies. 

GRCC advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament from May 23-26 at the Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Indiana.
