Three Raiders cross country runners medal at Regionals

The Grand Rapids Community College cross country team had a successful trip to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Regional Meet as three runners from the two teams secured medals. 

The men’s cross country team was the first to compete on the 8k course at Douglas Walker Park on Friday, Oct. 27. Sophomore Dan Kehoe was the first raider to get a medal as he finished 14th with a time of 27:45 in his final collegiate race. 

Freshmen Joseph VanderKooi and Austin Winkle finished back-to-back as VanderKooi finished 21st (28:34) and Winkle placed 22nd (28:34). 

As for the other Raiders from the men’s team, Anthony Lawlor finished with a time of 29:38 which placed him at 30th overall. Freshmen Quentin Dixon and Isaac DeLeon both improved on previous times as Dixon finished with a time of 31:30 (45th) while DeLeon finished with a time of 35:36 (70th). Rounding out the times for the men’s team, freshman Nicholas Webb finished strong with a time of 40:00 (80th). 

The men’s team placed fourth out of 15 total teams. 

As for the women’s cross country team, multiple runners earned a Regional medal, with freshmen Anna Tubbergen and Elicia Land both placing in the top-15. Tubbergen finished fourth with a time of 19:56 and Land finished in 12th place with a time of 21:03. 

There were a few newcomers from the women’s soccer team who impressed in their first collegiate races. Freshman Claira DeYoung ran a 24:03 (40th) while freshman Amelia Hancock finished a few seconds after with a time of 24:11 (42nd). 

Freshman Emily Adamy placed 52nd with a time of 24:54 and freshman Lillie Burns finished 62nd with a time of 29:42. 

The women’s team finished sixth out of 11 teams at the meet.
