Every fall, the music department at Grand Rapids Community College presents the students, staff and community with a faculty recital. Faculty performances will span a range of genres including vocals, guitar and other instruments.
Music Department program director, Kevin Dobreff, explained that Justin Colwell, a collaborative pianist, worked with most of the faculty performers, apart from the guitarists, to help plan their performances.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, the faculty will be performing at 7 p.m. in the Linn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall located in the Smith Music Center. Although the doors to the hall are closed relatively close to 7 p.m., it is highly recommended that people who wish to attend arrive as early as 6:30 p.m., as seating is limited.
Dobreff stated that admission is free for all who would like to attend this event. He also mentioned that all the Music Department events are free for all GRCC and Grand Rapids Public Schools students, while all other events require tickets for anyone not attending either school.
Regarding the Music Department, Dobreff stated, “We are one of the few departments on campus that actually confer degrees… We actually offer the associate music degree.”
The faculty recital is a great opportunity for new students of the Music Department to see their professors in action as well as to introduce new professors.
Below is a list of the faculty recital performers:
- Jonathan Marshall- Director of Guitar Studies
- Carmen Maret – Music Instructor
- Libor Ondras – Strings, Director of Orchestras
- Justin Colwell – Collaborative Pianist
- Adam Graham – Applied Low Brass Adjunct Faculty
