As a nod to mental health awareness week, the counseling center will be providing Grand Rapids Community College students with a variety of free mental health screenings and the opportunity to discuss their results with a counselor on Thursday, Oct. 10 as well as Friday, Oct. 11.
“Based on your recent thoughts and behaviors you can identify what screening you want to take so It’ll ask you like hey, are you experiencing anger (or) irritability?,” said Center for Counseling and Well-being program director Melissa Ware.
Staff from the counseling center will be available on the third floor of the student center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday for students who are interested in discussing their results. Snacks will also be provided.
Students are able to take any screening on the Center for Counseling and Well-being website. Ware points to the website as the best way for students to explore resources, as anyone can schedule an appointment or sign-up for workshops or groups online.
“The hope is that … people will see some sheer humanity… these are things that impact all of us,” said Ware.
