The Grand Rapids Community College Theater Department is holding auditions for their upcoming “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors’ play on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17.

“Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors” promises to be interesting, as it is intended to be a comedic take on the story of Count Dracula.

Students can expect a production that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” stated Theater Manager Jonathan Wheeler in an email to The Collegiate. “‘Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors’ is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud retelling of the classic vampire tale. It’s filled with quick character changes, clever wordplay, and a little bit of theatrical chaos that makes it both fun to perform and fun to watch.”

The GRCC website describes this forthcoming production as what would happen if you put Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” in a blender with Mel Brooks’, “Monty Python” and “The 39 Steps.”

Wheeler has another message for students: “All GRCC students are welcome to audition, regardless of experience. We want people who are willing to take risks, have fun, and bring their personality to the stage. Even if being on stage isn’t your thing, there are opportunities behind the scenes in areas like sets, lights, costumes, and box office. GRCC Theater thrives when students jump in and get involved!”

“Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors” premieres on Nov. 6.
