On the night of Aug. 27, night owls witnessed the moon become a red-orange color as it entered a partial lunar eclipse. This eclipse saw the moon slip 96% of the way into the Earth’s shadow. This “almost blood moon” marks the deepest eclipse since September of 2024 and was captured by Collegiate Photographer Kole Meschke in all its stunning beauty.
The eclipse itself lasted a little over five and a half hours, and countless people around the globe witnessed the color change in real time.
For those who want to mark their calendars and stay up late, the next total lunar eclipse is set to occur on Sep. 31.
