This Thursday, January 16, the Grand Rapids Community College Campus Activities Board will be hosting a comedy night. This event will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Applied Technology Center, located in room 168. It is a free event featuring two comedians, Ben Palmer and Caleb Elliott.
Palmer will be the first presenter of the evening. His show will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a meet-and-greet from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Elliot will perform after Palmer from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. before his meet-and-greet from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to end the evening.
Both of these comedians are traveling to GRCC for this event.
“We had (a comedy show) last year that went really well with one comedian and this year we (are) having 2 comedians fly out to Grand Rapids to do a show on campus,” stated CAB President Brayden Smith in an email to The Collegiate.
Elliott, also known as “The kid wit the Afro” is from North Carolina and recently finished a tour with comedian John Crist. Elliott has been performing stand-up since he was 11 years old and made his first television appearance in 2022 on season two of “Stand Up Nashville,” and has had many comedy events throughout his career.
Palmer, also known as PalmerTrolls, is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, and initially caught fame for his internet personality. According to his website, Palmer is “renowned for his distinct blend of satire, trolling, and social commentary.” His work has gone viral across multiple social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
“Students can expect lots of laughs and fun, I would describe their comedy as a balance of skits and crowd work,” Smith stated.
For students who have attended previous comedy nights on campus, there is no need to worry about watching the same show because there are new comedians lined up for the evening.
Bring a friend! To make this an inclusive event, “Students can bring a non-GRCC friend to join and we will be doing a giveaway that people can participate in if they attend the event,” Smith stated.
“People should attend comedy because it’s a great way to have some fun with friends and laugh…” Smith stated. “If this continues to be popular with students, we may make it an annual event.”
