The Grand Rapids Community College Raiders had an amazing game on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Ford Fieldhouse. The women’s basketball team secured a 68-49 victory over Marian University-Ancilla in a game that showed their offensive and defensive efficiency.

From the opening tip, GRCC had control, setting the tone with sharp shooting and rebounding. Sophomore Ava Schultz led the charge and delivered a stellar performance with 19 points, including four 3-pointers while adding eight rebounds.

Redshirt freshman Tianna Daye also had an impressive 18 points. Sophomore Tia Richard was another offensive power for the Raiders, contributing 17 points, including three 3-pointers, while also grabbing eight rebounds and four assists.

While GRCC controlled most of the game, the third quarter truly put them ahead. The Raiders shot an outstanding 64.3% from the field in the quarter. GRCC’s defensive effort was just as impressive as their offense.

The Raiders forced 21 turnovers, capitalizing on their aggressive defense to generate 21 points off those mistakes. The defensive pressure was highlighted by the team’s 16 steals, with Daye leading the way with five. The Raiders also dominated the boards, grabbing 44 rebounds.

Marian University-Ancilla found it difficult to keep up with GRCC’s intensity. Despite an effort from freshman Santana Eubanks, who had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, the team struggled with efficiency, shooting just 24.3% from the field. Sophomore De’Mour Watson also had a great game contributing nine points and 11 rebounds but that wasn’t enough to keep up with the Raiders.

With this victory, the Raiders are 8-11 for the season. GRCC takes on Glen Oaks Community College at the Ford Fieldhouse, on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 pm.
