The biggest night in Michigan music is soon underway. Friday, Feb. 28, the Jammies will be held at the Intersection. The Jammies are a Wyoming Community Education (WYCE) event that celebrates local music. It is the largest celebration of music made in Michigan.

The first Jammies was held in 2000 and was a generally small event. It used to be known as a giant pajama party with the title, a take on both the Grammy’s and pajamas. As the years have gone on, the attire options have widened along with the popularity of the event.

Awards are presented to artists from Michigan for the previous year and feature a variety of performances. This year there will be three active stages throughout the night. Awards will be exclusively presented on the main stage, but artist performances will be happening at all three.

Money Soup will be the first performance of the night on the main stage. The group is a five-person band based in West Michigan

They make funk music and released their debut self-titled album, Money Soup, on May 17, 2024. The group features Mia Silguero on vocals, Robert Greene on keyboards, MacKael LaMore on guitar, Maggie Tesfa on bass and Lainey Canan on drums.

The final performance of the night on the main stage will be Jordan Hamilton. Hamilton is an artist from Kalamazoo and has been releasing music since 2019. He covers a variety of genres, mixing R&B, soul, hip-hop, electronic and jazz music. He plays cello, sings and produces his music.

Many other artists will be performing throughout the night on the various stages. For the full lineup, visit the WYCE Instagram page.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased online or at the Section Live box office. All ages are welcome.

There will be two food trucks available outside of the show, Patty Matters and Pizza MI. Schuler Books is also partnering with the Jammies this year and will be selling books about music on-site. The books can be brought home or shipped.

For those who can’t make it to the event, GRTV will be covering the event and it will also be aired on 88.1 FM.

Ted Diedrich, the station manager of GRTV, could not be reached for comment.
