Grand Rapids Community College’s Display Magazine is now accepting written submissions for its upcoming fall issue.
Display Magazine highlights student creativity by using original writing and visual art. Any current GRCC student, regardless of major, is welcome to submit written work.
“You don’t have to feel like writing is going to be your career or that you have to be a professional writer,” said Display faculty writing adviser Patrick Prominski. “We just want to hear voices. The voices and experiences of our students matter.”
Prominski oversees the writing side of the magazine, managing student editors and collecting submissions. Written work is judged anonymously, giving each student a fair chance to be selected for publication.
“We give students critical eyes on their work,” Prominski said. “It allows them to have a publication they might use for transfer applications or to start their writing career.”
While any student can submit writing, visual art is selected through a separate process within the art department. Artwork displayed in the magazine is chosen from students enrolled in art courses and curated by visual arts advisor Andrew Caldwell.
Printed copies of Display are free and available to students and the public at the distribution rack outside the 4th-floor art gallery in RJF Hall. Copies are also sent to the Lakeshore campus in Holland.
The submission deadline for the fall issue is Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 by 5 p.m. A second submission window will open in the winter, closing on March 20, 2026 at 5 p.m.
Students interested in submitting or working with the writing side of the magazine can contact Prominski by email at display@grcc.edu.
“We want to make sure students are represented,” Prominski said. “Any student is welcome to submit.”
