The Bob and Aleicia Woodrick Center for Inclusion and Multicultural Affairs is hosting local makeup artists and Grand Rapids drag queen DeeDee Chautee on Monday, Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for “Makeup 101: Celebrating Your Beauty.”

Students are encouraged to stop by Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall room 373 on Monday to, “Discover the power of self-expression through makeup and confidence,” according to RaiderConnect. Students will be working hands-on with makeup artists and DeeDee Chautee to learn basic makeup techniques.

Along with learning more about makeup, students will discover how self-care correlates to self esteem, and get tips on how to confidently celebrate their own individuality.

Joel Reyes Hernandez works as the Assisting Latin@s to Achieve and Succeed Program Coordinator, one of four groups part of the Woodrick Center, and had a part in planning the event.

“I’d love readers to know that this program is about more than makeup. It’s part of a shift toward supporting students as whole people, not just academically,” Hernandez stated in an email. “We can’t ask students for excellence if we’re not also creating spaces that affirm self-love, confidence, and identity. College is already hard. Our goal is to make it more human, enjoyable, and empowering.”

The event will include free food and other free items for students.
