Childhood memories of potato sack races, tug-of-war and an entire elementary class gathered under a colorful parachute are what many students remember about Field Day, and the Campus Activities Board is bringing the nostalgic event back to Grand Rapids Community College students.
On Friday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m., Field Day will kick off at the Ford Field House. The event will be full of active games and activities for students to enjoy.
“We’ve chosen to bring this idea to GRCC students because most students looked forward to field day in elementary school,” said Campus Activities Board President Davina Mancilla. “Having an event like this felt like a fun way to ‘re-live’ some of those childhood nostalgic memories as an adult.”
Mancilla explained that students will go through a series of activities, including relay races, tug-of-war, trash can skeeball, and more.
“No equipment is necessary, but students should expect to be active and run around, so it may be wise to wear tennis shoes/athletic wear,” Mancilla advised.
With a roughly $1,300 budget, the event is expecting about 50 students to come and enjoy the day’s activities.
“Prepare to have fun,” Mancilla said.
