Congress has approved a bipartisan deal late Wednesday night allowing the federal government to reopen after remaining closed for 16 days.

The senate voted 81-18 approving the bill and the house followed with a 285-144 vote.

The bill allows the federal government to remain open until Jan. 15 and extend the debt limit until Feb. 7.

President Obama said he plans to sign the bill as soon as he receives it.

The Collegiate will have continuing coverage of the government reopening including possible consequences to GRCC students next semester if the federal government shuts down again.
